CRC Parking Lot Restriping Update
Parking Lot Restriping
Source: “Inside CRC” e-newsletter, June 22, 2026.
The parking lot next to the Child Development Center, The Nest Family Resource Center and the Hawk CARES Center will be closed for restriping in mid-to-late July 2026. The specific dates have not been determined.
The existing parking striping was designed for a lower volume of use and a different pattern of activity than what the area supports today. Over time, increased demand and shifting usage have reduced its effectiveness, resulting in unclear circulation, inconsistent parking behavior, and congestion during peak periods.
Over the past several years, demand at the Child Development Center has grown significantly. In 2019, the CDC served 54 children. By 2025, enrollment had increased to 98 children, and projections for the 2026–2027 academic year exceed 150 children. This represents more than a 175% increase since 2019, with the most recent growth occurring in a short time period. As a result, daily drop-off and pick-up activity has intensified, placing consistent strain on nearby parking and circulation areas.
At the same time, the Hawk CARES Center has experienced sustained growth in student usage. The Center served 1,077 students in the 2019–2020 academic year, increasing to 1,499 students by 2024–2025. Since July 1, 2025, an additional 1,738 students have already been served, reflecting continued upward demand. This growth has increased overall traffic volume throughout the day, with a greater need for short-term, high-turnover parking near the facility.
These combined increases in service demand are now outpacing the capacity of the existing parking configuration. Current conditions include congestion, unclear circulation patterns, and vehicles stopping in undesignated areas. Pedestrians—many of them families with young children—must navigate active traffic zones without clearly defined pathways, increasing the risk of conflicts between vehicles and foot traffic.
As part of the redesign, all elements of the parking area are being reviewed to better align with current usage and compliance requirements, including the duration and accessibility of parking designated for individuals with disabilities. This ensures the updated layout not only improves traffic flow but also continues to support equitable access for all users.
Please look for future announcements on closure dates.
