Description
This workshop will explore the vital role that media literacy plays in promoting equity in our community and improving student achievement in the classroom. We'll examine some of the ways that strengthening one's critical thinking skills about media consumption can help to close equity gaps on campus—particularly for first-generation, low-income and underrepresented students—by empowering them to navigate media landscapes with more scrutiny. We will discuss the import of a media literacy approach to education, and suggest helpful techniques for integrating media literacy into different disciplines, as a strategy to help students engage in more meaningful ways with their chosen course of study.
